Description

Hello Volunteers! We’d like to thank you for volunteering with Keep Austin Beautiful. You'll be giving some extra care to the lake and trails with an evening cleanup at Austin Rowing Club. Please note that this is a shoreline based cleanup. If you would like to go out on the water, please register for the waterway cleanup.

Your Lake Leader will be the Austin Rowing Club Staff and they will have your cleanup supplies, helpful safety guidelines, and further instructions for you.

If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your shift at your earliest convenience to re-open those spots for registration.

Event Details

What to bring: Closed toe shoes, a FULL water bottle, and comfortable clothing. We will provide all tools and neoprene gloves - if you have your own gardening or work gloves or a preferred brand of bug spray you are invited to bring them.

Where to park: Parking is available at the MACC parking lot at 600 Red River St. for $2/hr. There is also street parking available downtown.

Where we will begin: At the picnic tables close to the water by the rental desk at the bottom of the boathouse.

Youth Volunteers: All volunteers under the age of 18 must be registered by a parent or legal guardian. A parent or legal guardian must register and attend with the youth volunteer. Independent registrations submitted by minors are not permitted.

Pet Policy: For safety and liability reasons, pets are not permitted at volunteer events. Service animals are welcome.

A NOTE ON SAFETY: We encourage you to “See and Be Seen!” Be mindful of your fellow volunteers and maintain awareness of your surroundings at all times. Dial 911 in case of emergency.

“Know Before You Go”

Before you head out, please keep the following in mind:

  • Be aware that toxic algae blooms can occur in Lady Bird Lake. Whenever you're around natural bodies of water, remain vigilant.
  • Recognize that zebra mussels are invasive and widespread in Texas waterways. Let us know if you see any zebra mussels during your volunteer activity.
  • Be able to identify poison ivy, oak, and sumac; identifying these plants is essential for a safe cleanup.
  • Hydrate and take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Consult this guide for tips on recognizing and addressing heat-related issues.

Thanks again for being involved in making Austin such a unique and beautiful place to live and experience! See you on the lake!
