December Clean Lady Bird Lake

Greetings Volunteers, we’d like to thank you for volunteering for Keep Austin Beautiful's Clean Lady Bird Lake event. You'll be joining 100+ other volunteers to give some extra care to the lake and trails. You have signed up to participate in the Festival Beach cleanup. All ages are welcome at this site with adult supervision. You may choose to walk through the park and along the trail OR bring your own boat and clean up trash in the water.

Event Details

• Starting Location: 13 Chicon St., Austin, TX 78702 - This is the address to the parking lot we will meet at the parking lot. We will meet at the picnic tables down the hill from the parking lot. The picnic tables are across from the Martin Neighborhood Pool.
• Parking: 13 Chicon St., Austin, TX 78702 - This is the address to the parking lot. 
• Things to Bring: A FULL bottle of water and a hat.
• Youth Volunteers: All volunteers under the age of 18 must be registered by a parent or legal guardian. Independent registrations submitted by minors are not permitted.

Your Lake Leader for this site will be Rani Loyal with Whole Earth Provisions and she will have your cleanup supplies, helpful safety guidelines, and further instructions for you.

“Know Before You Go”

Before you head out, please keep the following in mind:

• Per Texas State Law, life jackets are required for everyone on a watercraft. For all children 13 and under the life jacket must be worn at all times. For more information on boater safety, please look to TPWD.
• Be aware that toxic algae blooms can occur in Lady Bird Lake. Whenever you're around natural bodies of water, remain vigilant.
• Recognize that zebra mussels are invasive and widespread in Texas waterways. Let us know if you see any zebra mussels during your volunteer activity. 
• Be able to identify poison ivy, oak, and sumac; identifying these plants is essential for a safe cleanup.
• Hydrate and take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Consult this guide for tips on recognizing and addressing heat-related issues.

If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your shift at your earliest convenience to re-open those spots for registration.
