August Clean Lady Bird Lake

Greetings Volunteers, we’d like to thank you for volunteering for Keep Austin Beautiful's Clean Lady Bird Lake event. You'll be joining 100+ other volunteers to give some extra care to the lake and trails. You have signed up to participate in the Shoal Beach Shoreline cleanup. All ages are welcome at this site with adult supervision. You can choose to pick up litter along the shoreline and trail OR bring your own boat and pick up litter from the water. 

Your Lake Leader for this site will be Linda McCoy with Austin Stand-Up Paddleboarders and she will have your cleanup supplies, helpful safety guidelines, and further instructions for you.

Event Details

·        Starting Location: Group will meet at the tiled memorial wall & pedestrian bridge to the east of the parking lot.

·        Parking: Parking is available on site, on San Antonio St., or at the parking garage at Cesar Chavez and Lavaca.

·        Things to Bring: A FULL bottle of water, sunscreen, a hat, and a snack

“Know Before You Go”

Before you head out, please keep the following in mind:

• Per Texas State Law, life jackets are required for everyone on a watercraft. For all children 13 and under the life jacket must be worn at all times. For more information on boater safety, please look to TPWD.
• Be aware that toxic algae blooms can occur in Lady Bird Lake. Whenever you're around natural bodies of water, remain vigilant.
• Recognize that zebra mussels are invasive and widespread in Texas waterways. Let us know if you see any zebra mussels during your volunteer activity. 
• Be able to identify poison ivy, oak, and sumac; identifying these plants is essential for a safe cleanup.
• Hydrate and take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Consult this guide for tips on recognizing and addressing heat-related issues.

If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your shift at your earliest convenience to re-open those spots for registration.
