UT Lions: Redirect a Trail for Safety in Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park

Saturday, January 28th, 2017 from 9:00am to 12:00pm (CT)

About

Move a 150-foot segment of trail from an area that becomes a muddy mess with each rain to a route that is more sustainable. The new route will also offer safer approaches to the intersection of this trail with the paved Northern Walnut Creek Trail. Replant the closed section of trail to restore a natural setting.

Requirement Details
Dress for the weather, but at least wear long pants and sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Much of our work will involve getting into the brush, so a long-sleeved shirt is a good idea, too. Bring a refillable container for water. By and large we will not encounter poison ivy. If you are supersensitive to it, we can be sure your job guarantees no exposure.
Perks
The warm glow of having done something good for your community—and the gratifying feeling you'll get every time you return to this park and see people using the trail you built or native habitat flourishing in the areas you restored.
Parking Details
The nearest parking lots are:
• by the trailhead (second and third entrances to parking on the left side of the park road, coming from Lamar)
• across the park road from the trailhead (first two entrances on the right side of the park road)
• in the parking lot by the pool (first two entrances on the left)

If those are all full, continue down the park road to the second parking lot on the right (the third entrance to the right).
