OPEN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Turning an invasive into a learning opportunity!!

Tuesday, January 14th, 2020 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm (CT)

About

Do you disdain invasive plants threatening our local ecosystems? Do you love children learning via hands on experiences? Well then do we have the right volunteer opportunity for you! We need help turning a giant pile of bamboo removed from the new MLK Station park into a hands on, nature-based loose parts kits learning tool for  kids. We'll spend the afternoon cutting the bamboo stalks into 3 foot chunks and removing all the branches. The Cities Connecting Children to Nature initiative will take our finished products and distribute them at parks around town to help foster learning and play in connection to the outdoors.

APF will provide snacks and gloves to the volunteers. Please bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated! We'll be working in an empty lot located at the dead end of E. 16th St. There is some street parking nearby and even more just a few blocks south at Downs-Mabson fields. If you can please carpool, walk, bike or bus!

Looking forward to working with everyone! Thanks so much!
